An essential part of Nylon 6-6, hexamethylenediamine is made by hydrogenating
adiponitrile. Nylon 6-6 is a suitable replacement for Nylon 6, which is
utilised in tyre cords, ropes, musical instrument strings, and automotive
applications.
Adiponitrile is a colourless organic liquid
chemical. The polymer nylon 6-6, known for its exceptional mechanical strength
and used in a variety of products like conveyor belts, carpet fibres, and
electro-insulating elements, is the main use for this substance. Although to a
much smaller extent, adiponitrile is also utilised as a blending agent in the
production of rubber accelerators and corrosion inhibitors.

intermediate for nylon-66 is Adiponitrile.
As a transitional, hexamethylene diamine converts it into nylon-66. Nylon-66 is
widely used in the automotive and transportation industries. As it is heat,
grease, and oil resistant, it is also used on the radiator and tanks, oil pans,
air intake manifolds, etc.
