Acrylic Fibers are relatively stable and do not exhibit the high-temperature instability associated with carbon fibers. However, there are several structural changes that occur in acrylic fibers that affect their mechanical properties. They do not exhibit the typical two-phase fine structure and have a fibrillar morphology with a strong cohesion between the fibrils.

The process used to produce acrylic fiber is not environmentally friendly. Toxic chemicals are used in the process, and when they break down, they leach into the environment. This pollution is harmful to both current and future generations. Additionally, the production of acrylic fabrics requires lots of energy and heat, which can lead to air pollution.

When selecting clothing to wear, look for labels that state if they contain acrylic. These labels can reveal the percentage of acrylic that a garment contains. If there is any doubt, users can opt for a different type of fabric. Adding functional additives to Acrylic Fibers can also help improve comfort or aesthetic appeal.

Acrylic Fabrics are water resistant, but they are not breathable. They also tend to trap heat, which makes them best for use in cool climates. Additionally, acrylic fabrics are prone to pilling, which can reduce the overall lifespan of a garment. However, they are extremely easy to wash. Users just need to make sure that they avoid washing them in extremely hot temperatures, as this can damage the fabric.
